About Common Language
Who We Are
Founded in January 2005, Common Language is a community-based support and rights group for lesbian, bisexual women and transgendered people (LBT) in China. By promoting sustainable LBT community organizing, and by building communication and coalition among different groups of people, we aim to empower LBT community, fight the discriminating attitude towards sexual minorities, improve the general social environment and advocate for LGBT equal rights in China.
Common Language received \"She Changes the World\" award from Mama Cash Foundation in 2008.

Strive for equality; embrace diversity; love in harmony.

Our Strategy
By changing people’s minds and attitudes, we are determined to change people’s behavior, build inclusive social movement coalition to influence legislation and public policy on LGBT rights.

Our Tasks
We are dedicated to changes on three levels:
- Individual: personal participation and empowerment;
- Community: grass root organizing and development, cross region networking and cross movement coalition;
- Society: public education and advocacy for equal rights.

Our Goals
Our short-term goals are to set up local community-based LBT self-help groups in China and build cross region networks.
Our long-term goals are to empower LGBTI people and women in general, build movement coalition to influence social attitude and policy making.

Our Work Plan for 2009-2013
1. Building national LBW network and cooperation;
2. Building social movement allies and coalition;
3. Public education on LGBT issues;
4. Advocacy for LGBT equal rights;
5. Supporting marginalized groups within LGBT community.
